Presentation of grant projects to reinvent displaced universities

Презентація грантових проєктів з відродження переміщених університетів

On September 3, 2020, DSUM together with its partners presented to the community of the city grant projects implemented within the framework of the international technical assistance of the European Union under the program “EU Support to Displaced Higher Education Institutions in Eastern Ukraine”.

Participants of the event were students and academic staff of displaced educational institutions (Donetsk State University of Management and Donetsk Law Institute of MIA of Ukraine), representatives of project partners – University of Genoa (Italy), Mariupol City Council, NGO “Mariupol Development Fund” and “Green Center Metinvest”.

Specialists from the Center of International Cooperation of Donetsk State University of Management presented the concepts of two infrastructure projects supported by the European Union:

Education Open Space for Students and Community (EduSpace)

The project includes reconstruction of the educational building of the University and creation on its basis of a modern space for development of students, academic staff and Mariupol community. The project is financed by EUAID

Reinventing displaced universities (REDU)

Creation of a development strategy for the university in the new city, improvement of the pedagogical skills of academic staff and the level of English language proficiency, as well as the infrastructure component – co-working space.

The speakers presented ideas and content of projects, objectives and ways of their implementation, expected results and main directions of project implementation.

“The objectives, which are planned during the implementation of the projects, to contribute to the revival of displaced universities and increase the attractiveness of university education in the city” – Svitlana Marova, Rector of DSUM.

The projects provide for the development of Universities as the best European practices; strengthening and development of professional skills of the academic community and increasing social responsibility of displaced Universities by involving the academic community in solving social, economic, environmental, cultural and other problems.

The University approach has defined the main participants and stakeholders of the projects, and it is students who will get the desired reality: modern gyms, smart library, space for extracurricular training and leisure, as well as the opportunity to develop startups and organize their own business and volunteer work.The online representatives of the University of Genoa (Italy) – Guido Amoretti and Diana Spoolber – mentioned the positive experience of cooperation with the team of DSUM and expressed confidence in the success of the project.
